The camping season is in full swing! School is out and, families are ready to camp! The campground we work at has been filling up, and we are busy, busy, busy! North Conway, NH, is in the White Mountain region, and our campground is right along the Saco River, so our guests hike, kayak, canoe, and tube the river on hot summer days.

We have been working 38-40 hours a week at the campground. Sheila is working in guest services in the Country Store/Office, answering phones, taking reservations, greeting guests, and renting golf carts, tubes, and fun bikes. Mike is working maintenance cleaning bathrooms, cleaning sites, emptying fire rings, delivering firewood, and working security at night. He also fixes lots of stuff including, fun bikes, sprinkler systems, and picnic tables.

The campground recently had an ice cream social, and Sheila got to dip some ice cream and make sundaes for the guests! Delicious!! Working in a campground has not been all fun and games. However, we recently had an outbreak of gypsy moth caterpillars who have defoliated several trees and left droppings everywhere! Yuck! Understandably, we have some unhappy guests despite our efforts to eradicate the little furry beasts.

While we love our work, we also love our days off and we recently spent two days tent camping and hiking in Acadia National Park which is only a four-hour drive from the campground. One of the benefits of being a workamper is being able to take advantage of all there is to do and see where you live and work!
